Biography: Frank Viola is an American former professional baseball player, nicknamed "Sweet Music," best known for his time as a left-handed pitcher with the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets. Viola earned the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 1987 when he helped lead the Twins to their first championship.
Over the course of his career, Viola was a three-time All-Star and was a consistent, effective pitcher. He won the Cy Young Award in 1988 as the American League's best pitcher while with the Twins. Viola amassed more than 170 wins over his career and struck out over 1,800 batters.
While Viola is best known for his time with the Twins and the Mets, he also played for the Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Toronto Blue Jays. After retiring from playing, Viola transitioned into coaching, serving as pitching coach for the High Point Rockers in North Carolina.
