Spinning might look about the same as outdoor cycling or riding a stationary bike, but in many ways, it’s a far more intense workout—and one of the easiest to overdo.
First, there aren’t many (if any) breaks in spin class. “When you’re biking outside, you have to be aware of road dangers like water and cars, so you have to slow down at times,” says Dr. Maureen Brogan, an assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College who has conducted research into spinning.
Street vendors in Santo Domingo usually eke out a living selling pirated DVDs of Hollywood blockbusters to motorists caught in the notorious traffic jams of this bustling Caribbean capital. But these days, the motorists are the ones seeking out the vendors. “This porno is all people want,” says Wilfredo Ortiz, 22, who has sold DVDs on the streets here for five years. “It’s so popular. Within a genre that’s known for its expansive world-building and creative approaches to culture, religion and society, few series match the ambition of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time, beginning with The Eye of the World. The book takes the reader to an enormous world full of magic, monsters, wars, politics, history and danger. Mug shots are routinely taken when a criminal suspect is arrested. But for some high-level politicians who have found themselves looking at that camera lens, a lot of thinking goes into a key decision: whether or not to smile.
Most famously, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, former Texas Governor Rick Perry, and former U.S. Senator John Edwards all smiled in their mug shots. In all of these cases, the pictures represent a deliberate choice by the politician—and it’s one former President Donald Trump will be faced with on Tuesday when he arrives for his arraignment in New York.
It's the reunion Ryan Reynolds has been trying to orchestrate for nearly a decade. One's a motor-mouth, the other taciturn. They're indestructible, though they both curse plenty when in the midst of fisticuffs. Deadpool and Wolverine, who appeared together in the much-maligned 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, are back together and hoping to make box office history. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will star in Deadpool & Wolverine, out July 26. Disney is betting big on these two heroes.
